Our 2021 Wine Issue Is out—and Free for Everyone to Read
Thomas J. Story
Adam Mariani looks out over the Scribe vineyards in Sonoma, California.

Winemaking in the West is no easy feat. And yet the region’s growers and producers continue on the path of mindful cultivation. They continue to release innovative bottles in the face of a historic pandemic, wildfires, and drought.

In California, for one, winemakers are crafting sparkling wines that expand the definition of what bubbles can be, choosing not to be like Champagne but instead forge a new path based on the terroir of the Golden State. In Oregon, a family is hosting tasting in a tent amid their vines to highlight the stewards whose skilled labor and allows the wines to shine. Farming continues to be an evolving conversation among Western vintners, who are leading the way with biodynamic vineyards and even permaculture wine farms. And the list goes on.

It’s in that spirit that we are excited to announce our 2021 Wine Issue, along with our annual Sunset International Wine Awards, which are free to peruse in the issue right here. This issue is jam-packed full of our favorite neighborhood bottle shops, wine clubs, and more. We’ve got recipes for a range of delicious dishes and their perfect pairings, plus an inside look at some of the most stunning wine country homes. You can also read all the stories online here.

For our wine awards, we assembled a panel of judges and tasted our way through hundreds of bottles that collectively represent what’s being grown, made, and poured right now. And take it from us, these vintages deliver.

So here’s a toast to the people behind all of these great bottles, who collectively offer us an opportunity for connection with every glass. We are moved by your resilience. Cheers!
