When Does Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Open?

May 31, 2019.

Does It Cost Extra?

No, there is no cost beyond the regular theme-park admission.

Will There Be Fastpass?

Not at first. Eventually, Fastpass, MAXPASS, and Fastpass+ reservations will be offered, but Disney has not yet announced these dates and details.

Do I Need a Special Reservation?

In order to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge between its opening on May 31 and June 23, you’ll be required to have a reservation for the ride. Unfortunately, all stand-alone reservations got snapped up within hours of their being offered online the morning of May 2.

It’s still possible to get a slot, though. If you have a room booked at a Disneyland Resort hotel for a stay between May 31 and June 23, you will receive one Galaxy’s Edge pass per registered guest in your party. It’s not too late to make a reservation, but rooms will probably sell out, so we recommend making your hotel arrangements now.

What Happens after June 23?

After June 23, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be open to anyone with a regular park ticket. Lines will be long.

How Long? What if I Need the Bathroom?

As Disneyland vice president Kris Theiler explained to the OC Register, guests stuck in lines will be able to grab a bathroom pass (in the form of a lanyard) from a Disney employee before heading to the restroom. When they’re done, they’ll be instructed to wait near the FastPass merge location. When their families or friends get close to that point, they’ll be able to rejoin them.

Is the Whole Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Land Debuting at Once?

No. The attraction opening now is called Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. It’s 14 acres of interactive fun set on the planet Batuu, known as a haven for the galaxy’s most notorious smugglers and scoundrels. Sound like anyone you know? Yes, you’ll find Han Solo’s famous hunk of junk here, and can even take the controls for a spell.

Just as on the film version of Batuu, visitors will have to decide quickly (using the park’s mobile app) whether to align themselves with the First Order, the Resistance, or the world of interplanetary smugglers. These decisions will impact the way the visit unfolds in a way that Disney calls an unprecedented level of interactivity.

We don’t know a lot yet about the details of the experience, but some reports are starting to trickle out.

Will I Find Anything Besides Smugglers Run Open Yet?

Yes! Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge promises to be more than a collection of rides and attractions; it’s a whole world. Visitors can shop the exotic bazar at the Black Spire Outpost, maybe picking up a customized lightsaber along the way, and sample intergalactic delicacies (blue milk, anyone?) at a number of stands and cantinas throughout the land.

What Is Phase II?

It’s called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and it promises to be epic, as well. Disney has described it as four rides in one, a multifaceted journey that sees riders joining the Resistance before being sucked into a Star Destroyer to battle the First Order.

When Does Phase II Open?

“Sometime later in 2019” is as specific as we know right now. We want to know as much as you do! We’ll post it here when we do.
