Celebration Weekend 2016 Wine Seminars
Come, sip, and learn with Sunset magazine’s Wine Editor, Sara Schneider, and special guests for three different seminars offered on Sunday. Whichever class you choose, the tasting is always included. Tickets will be on sale at the end of March.
Wine Seminars
A Study of Bubbly—Find Your Style
11:30am – 12:30pm
Sparkling wine isn’t a single kind of wine—it’s many! Sip through the range and learn to taste the difference between all-Chardonnay sparklers (Blanc de Blancs) and mostly-Pinot ones (Blanc de Noirs). Become an expert on the mousse, and discover how pink bubbly gets that way.
You Be the Judge
1:30pm – 2:30pm
Taste Gold Medal winners from the Sunset International Wine Competition alongside a panel of our professional judges. Learn what they look for in a wine to determine if it’s a medal winner; why they don’t always agree on every wine; and how they can possibly taste 100 wines a day. Test your own wine taste against the pros!
Taste Like a Master
3:30pm – 4:30pm
Three years ago, four candidates for the final, intensely difficult Master Sommelier diploma gave the career star quality in the reality movie SOMM, following them through their months of study leading up to the final test. Their tasting challenge in that test hinges on a very specific deductive process of analyzing a wine, leading to the ability—tasting blind—to tell what a wine is and where in the entire world and what vintage it’s from. Learn the process from one of those candidates, now a Master Sommelier and character in the sequel to that movie, SOMM—Into the Bottle.
