Two weeks ago, I landed in Denver to see how this year’s Idea House is coming. I continue to be blown away by the care and energy of our team (Design Platform and Megan Hudacky). But let’s get to the most important thing:
The fireplace YOU voted to save has been saved!The bricks were disassembled, cleaned, and placed back in roughly the same way. The wide hearth has yet to be installed. In the picture above, you’ll see the bricks don’t go all the way to the ceiling since we bumped that up a bit. Instead, we’ll be installing horizontal wood to match other areas of the house or a stone slab. (Want to get in on more decisions? We’re voting on items on our Facebook page.)
A few more interesting developments:
Salvage brick for the second levelThe architect, Jonas DiCaprio, and his team at Design Platform searched long and hard for salvage brick for the second floor. They wanted a close match to the original and I think they’ve pulled it off. Jonas said as the brick ages a bit, the match will get even closer.
A visit to the workshopWe ended our trip to the shop that’s fabricating the metal mesh wall I told you about, the built-ins (the world’s most covetable wine bar is coming your way), and I think some of the outdoor pieces as well. I can’t wait to see the craftsmanship that comes out of this space.
