When it comes to paint finishes, there are the usuals: high-gloss, semi-gloss, satin, eggshell, and flat/matte. That’s already plenty of options that can suit any type of room or project, but if you’re looking for something a little bit different, you’re in luck. Paint and wallpaper company Farrow & Ball has just introduced a new finish to the mix—it’s called Dead Flat, and it’s an extra-matte finish that’s absolutely stunning. Think of it as a finish that’s for those who gravitate toward super-saturated, dramatic, and bold spaces.

“Dead Flat is a unique combination of truly fantastic features: It’s matte, durable, and multi-surface. The super matte quality has the incredible effect of making our colors look even richer, especially the darker shades,” Farrow & Ball’s Creative Director Charlotte Cosby said in a press release. “We’re thrilled to launch this exciting new finish and I can’t wait to see it transform our customers’ homes all over the world.”

The formulation has been in the works for the last five years and the finished product is definitely high-quality—not only do you get super-rich color, but you also get a durable finish that’s scuff-resistant, washable, and wipeable (perfect for, you know, everyday living). The team at Farrow & Ball notes that since Dead Flat features a 2% sheen, it minimizes light bounce so the eye sees color from every angle and the effect also minimizes imperfections. It’s water-based and has a low odor, so application can be a breeze.
