Watch how to plant and stake dahlias for gorgeous summer color

Dahlias are a fabulous summer flower. They will bloom mid-summer all the way until the first frost, and there are so many different varieties to choose from. Any varieties that grow over three feet tall will need some support or staking system at planting time. It’s key to establish that support when you plant the tubers. We used bamboo stakes and twine to make a crisscrossing lattice to support the flowers as they grow. Dahlia spacing depends on height, so be sure to check the label before planting. To plant dahlias, lay the tuber in your six-inch-deep hole with the eye facing up before completely covering with soil.
