Airstream camping

Thomas J. Story

The nostalgic draw of RV travel seems to hit particularly this time of year, when temperatures drop and the siren call of fall adventure begins. This season, that sentiment is particularly strong, with new high tech models of trailers hitting the market. From a sleek, all-electric model to a camping collab that has all the bells and whistles a camper might need, here are the best trailers hitting the market.

Bivvi Base Camp A-Frame

Based out of Sisters, Oregon, this company designs small, towable A-frame units. They derived the name of their Bivvis from the word “bivouac,” a small shelter that can be easily packed and deployed in the wilderness. Each cabin is compact and functional. The 110 square-foot layout is totally turnkey, and can be sized to be towed on highways and roadways quickly and efficiently.

Romotow T-8

Designed by New Zealand-based architectural and interior design firm W2, the Romotow looks like a normal trailer at first glance, but at the push of a button it transforms into a large indoor-outdoor hosting area. The automated swivel reveals up to 70% more floor area within its elegant, futuristic design.

Bowlus Volterra

Bowlus, the brand that inspired the original Airstream, has long been ahead of the game when it comes to full EV towing, and their brand-new, all-electric 2023 Volterra model is the first production RV to be 100% electric. The Volterra also is the first to apply AeroSolar, and includes high-speed satellite internet and an induction cooktop.

Living Vehicle

At the end of August, Living Vehicle launched the 2024 HDPRO, a luxe, high-tech, and optimized trailer for adventures on the go. It’s a 30-foot long, three-axle vehicle that has a redesigned bedroom with three different options—King bed, Mobile Office, or Queen Bunk Room. The model also includes a Mini-Split HVAC system and an expanded solar roof. Matthew and Joanna say that in the marine world, the HD is most akin to a luxury motor yacht.

Airstream Basecamp 20X

The new Special Edition Basecamp 20X—a collab between REI and Aistream—is truly a turnkey trailer for adventure lovers. Made from sustainably sourced and recycled materials, it offers off-grid features and clever design details like birch cabinetry and spruce green accents that call on the brand’s outdoorsy ethos. Plus it comes with a 25-piece REI Co-Op kit with all the gear you’d need to round out your adventure.
