Borealis Basecamp

Located just 25 miles from Fairbanks, Borealis Basecamp sits on 100 acres of pristine boreal forest in the Alaska wilderness under the famed “auroral oval,” a prime viewing area for the northern lights. Owned and operated by Alaskans, the property opened in 2017 with 20 glass-domed igloos featuring incredible aurora borealis viewing opportunities for overnight guests. It has since expanded to include eight “cube” accommodations and a “cube suite,” which are modern guest rooms, featuring a full wall of “Arctic glass” on the northeast end for optimal aurora viewing. The lodge offers a variety of complimentary activities and a la carte guided tours, a sauna and a full-service restaurant and welcomes day trippers in addition to overnight guests. It is open from mid-August through mid-April each year, during the aurora season.
