The Best Matcha Teas to Start Drinking at Home
Meet the top three matcha teas that you should start drinking now to boost your work from home days.
We only recommend things we love. If you buy something through our site, we might earn a commission.
Why Matcha?
Tea has been my go-to choice for caffeine since I started college—mainly, thanks to my English exchange student roommate who got me hooked on English breakfast tea with milk and sugar. I slowly transitioned over the years from black tea to green tea, and soon found myself in love with its more powerful iteration: matcha.
Matcha is still green tea, but instead of leaves is usually a ground powder made of tea leaves that packs more caffeine and other benefits, like antioxidants than conventional tea. If you’re interested in trying matcha, there are so many out there—but these are the top three I recommend trying after making many a mug of matcha at home.
Best All Around: Golde Pure Matcha
Golde is my current go-to matcha that I’m drinking so frequently that I’m dreading when it runs out. Golde’s Pure Matcha is often on backorder due to its massive popularity, and the wait is worth it for the rich, slightly sweet flavor that is delicious on its own, in a latte, or even added to baked goods.
How to Enjoy
Golde Pure Matcha comes in a standard tin filled with the green tea powder, and you can either whisk a teaspoon or so into a small amount of hot water using a matcha whisk before adding more hot water, or whip it in a blender with water or milk.
For lattes, if you have a milk frother, you can use that to easily blend your matcha and milk (you might also want to add a little agave syrup or sugar if you prefer your lattes on the sweeter side.) For any other drink, it’s best to whisk the matcha first and then add it to what you have in mind.
Best on-the-Go: Cap Beauty’s Neat Matcha Stick Box
There are a few different ways to measure matcha, but Cap Beauty’s matcha sticks make it super easy to make the perfect cup of matcha: Just open up the stick-sized pouches and you’re good to go.
Cap Beauty’s matcha packs a smooth matcha flavor with powder that never seems to clump when I’m whipping it up into a latte. Their matcha also comes in the classic jar, but the sticks are irresistible in my opinion.
How to Enjoy
The matcha stick box makes measuring that cup of matcha super easy, and the flexibility of the pouches opens up a new world of where you can enjoy that mug, too. Pack a pouch and your whisk to take to work for a fresh mug of matcha, or take a few pouches on vacation or on a visit to a family member’s home.
Best Loose Leaf: Art of Tea
I know, I know: I said matcha was a powder made of tea leaves. Art of Tea has created a blend of matcha and loose-leaf sencha, another type of green tea, to create a delicious cup of loose-leaf matcha that you can enjoy like any other type of tea, without sacrificing the matcha flavor and benefits. Art of Tea calls it their Matcha+ Plus, and they also have a regular powdered green tea.
How to Enjoy
If you’re a frequent loose-leaf tea drinker, you’ll already be familiar with the best ways to enjoy this loose-leaf tea. Art of Tea offers teabags that work for their matcha, or you can also use diffusers in a mug or kettle.
