While the seasonal prep this time of year tends to revolve around getting ready for the holidays—buying gifts, planning parties and gatherings, booking travel, et cetera—there’s a lot to be done when it comes to practical home maintenance matters. Home services website Thumbtack just released a report that looks at the top trending home projects this fall, and one of the biggest “trends” was seasonal maintenance.

To avert any winter weather damage, homeowners are looking to get their home prep work done sooner rather than later. In fact, the Thumbtack team found that with another El Niño on the way, water damage and cleanup restoration are up +91% from last year, waterproofing projects are up +71%, and sump pump installations or repairs are up +63%. Roof inspections are up +108%, with almost half focused on routine check-ups. Additionally, landscape work is a big focus in the fall, like lawn mowing and trimming; full-service lawn care; tree trimming or removal; and outdoor landscaping and design work. Homeowners are also opting for sustainable upgrades, too—solar panel installations or repairs are up +67% YoY. They’re also doing other repairs, like fixing appliances, plumbing, garage doors, and locks.
