In business since 1897 and currently owned by Henry Gonzalez and his family, this friendly little place sells top-quality top sirloin (the traditional cut for Santa Maria–style barbecue) as well as the better-known tri-tip, plus local buffalo, elk, and dozens of housemade sausages—all ready to fit into your cooler for the ride home to your own backyard barbecue. Their tri-tip sandwich, lavished with apricot barbecue sauce and melted butter, isn’t traditional, but it sure is good.
