Realizing that it was #NationalCoffeeDay en route to work this morning was a little like, I don’t know, remembering that it was my best friend’s birthday at 10 p.m. ON THE DAY OF. 1. Dunkin Donuts
Known for their sweet, strong coffees—we’re talking that jet fuel coffee which sets the pulse racing, which sends caffeine fiends into the throes of ecstasy—this stalwart East Coast chain is offering customers a free hot or iced medium dark roast in honor of the holiday. And, since the company’s recently expanded westward, to great fanfare, in Arizona, California, and Colorado, you might be able to find a location near you.
2. Krispy Kreme
Not to be outdone by their competitor, today the beloved North Carolina-based donut chain will be giving customers a free small coffee and a free original glazed donut. Bonus: some locations have a red neon “Hot Now” sign, so you can time your coffee run in order to enjoy a warm, gooey, hot-off-the-presses donut along with your drink.
3. Peet’s Coffee
Coffee purists will want to head to an outpost of Bay Area-born Peet’s, as the cultish chain—which, in the 1960s, brought small-batch roasts to the masses—is giving away a free small cup of their Major Dickason blend with the purchase of an oatmeal, baked good, or fresh food item. 4. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
This highbrow chain, another California native, prides themselves on their impeccably sourced coffee beans, which come from farms across Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific.
