Two local food events worth feasting on

Just part of Star Apple Gardens’ edible displayat the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show. (Photo courtesy design*sponge.)All things garden to table are celebrated this weekend at the gigantic San Francisco Flower & Garden Show in San Mateo, CA. It’s really great this year, with a 6,000-square-foot edible gardening display from Star Apple Gardens, which hosts not just plants but chicken coops, a jam maker, and a beer brewer. And—for the first time ever—the show features demonstrations by chefs and cooks, including yours truly. On Sunday I’ll be cooking from our brand-new book, The One Block Feast, and, later that day, telling the story of how the whole one-block project evolved–along with several of my Sunset colleagues and co-authors). There’s a farmers’ market and a wine garden, too. Come on by and we’ll sign a copy of the book for you.

One word: mmmmmmm. (Photo courtesy California’s Artisan Cheese Festival.)Also this weekend: The festival I look forward to with shameless eagerness every March, because it celebrates one of my favorite foods: Artisan cheese. If you love a good hunk of handmade delectableness, come by California’s Artisan Cheese Festival this weekend. I’ll be there on Saturday–learning how to stretch curds for mozzarella and listening to the greats of the cheese world tell us how it’s done. I’ll be signing books. And, of course, eating lots of cheese! Hope to see you.
