Start planning, because the National Parks Service has announced its 2018 dates for free entry into its parks. While last year had ten chances for a free visit, the National Park Service has only chosen four opportunities for 2018.

Head to your favorite national park in the West for free admission on:

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (January 15)
  • The start of National Park Week (April 21)
  • National Public Lands Day (Sept. 22)
  • Veterans Day (Nov. 11)

Many parks are free to enter already or only cost a few dollars, like Redwood National Park and Muir Woods, but larger parks like the Grand Canyon, Zion, Yellowstone, and Yosemite ordinarily cost up to $25 per vehicle to enter. The National Parks Service recently proposed raising fees as high as $70 per vehicle for popular parks such as Joshua Tree and the Grand Canyon as early as May 2018, so take advantage of these dates while you can.
