3 of the Most Booked Airbnbs Are Found in the West—Tour Them Here

Airbnb has made it possible for travelers to stay in some pretty awe-inspiring places. Want to live out your cottagecore fantasy and stay somewhere that’s right out of The Holiday? There’s an Airbnb for that. What about an A-frame with views for days? There’s an Airbnb for that. Or a treehouse or boathouse or even a castle? Yes, you’ll find one of those on the site.

For design lovers and architecture buffs, you can check out the Design category on Airbnb to stay at the coolest homes and properties across the world. Airbnb has a collection of over 20,000 vacation rentals in the category, and from January to June 30, 2023, a whopping 2 million nights have been booked in the category. And visitors have loved staying in those homes—Airbnb reports 89.5% of reviews from those stays boasted five stars.

If you’re looking for travel inspiration, Airbnb recently released the most booked listings in the Design Category by Design Category hosts themselves and the most wishlisted listings in the Design Category. Essentially, these properties are the crème de la crème when it comes to high design—and it just so happens that there are Western destinations represented on the lists.

For the most booked listings by Design Category Hosts, the Invisible House in Joshua Tree took the second spot. The home—which has been featured in music videos, TV shows, and magazines—has an entirely mirrored facade that makes it look like it blends into its desert surroundings. There are three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a detached casita with one bedroom, an indoor swimming pool, and so much more. It’s also minutes from the Joshua Tree National Park Entrance and downtown Joshua Tree.

In the third place is “Private Sage Canyon Cliff House” in Cortez, Colorado. Guests can stay in the home that’s built right into the red rock cliff wall of Sleeping Ute Mountain. The nature retreat has stunning views and is 20 minutes from the town of Cortez and 40 minutes from Mesa Verde.

Coming in at eighth place on the most booked lineup is Cob Cottage on Mayne Island in British Columbia, Canada. It’s a whimsical home made of local and sustainable natural materials and features one bedroom and one bathroom. Talk about a cozy retreat!

On the list of most wishlisted listings in the Design Category, two Western properties were ranked—one in Los Angeles and the other in Santa Fe. The “Designer Hillside Retreat” was number two on the list and is located in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home features three (yes, three!) private garden patios that offer views of the Silver Lake Hills.

And the “Hummingbird” property in Santa Fe was number nine on the most wishlisted list. The hilltop home features two bedrooms and two bathrooms and has stunning mountain views. The description also says it has “three fireplaces, an extensive collection of original artwork, century-old Native American pots and baskets, and a library of Southwestern and general books of interest.
