The New Laguna Surf Lodge Will Fulfill Your ‘Endless Summer’ Fantasy
SCP Hotel’s latest offering is the beachy California stay we all need.
Perched atop Thalia Street’s gentle yet consistent break, the newly revamped Laguna Surf Lodge has been revamped by SCP Hotels, breathing new life into a classic coastal gem.
Rooms now boast a Scandi-boho design with lots of lush plants and curated artwork by local surf brand Sunday Arvo Surf Club.
After a recent stay, we can tell you the improvements were worth the wait, not just because of the thoughtfully updated design, but for the new programming that seamlessly integrates Laguna’s local surf culture.
You’re going to want to book in and rise early for the Lodge’s signature Dawn Patrol Experience. The early wake-up call is made a whole lot easier after a great night’s sleep aided by the calming essential oil diffusers and Avocado mattresses in-room accompanied by nature’s ultimate sound machine—waves caressing the shore below.
Instead of checking Surfline for the morning report, guests can peer out the window at the break below, which is said to be the location where skim boarding was invented by two local lifeguards back in the 1920s. The Laguna Surf Lodge team also updates a chalked board in front of the lobby with more precise Surfline updates.
After a quick cup of locally roasted coffee, surfers load into SCP owners Ken and Pamela Cruse’s vintage 1967 Land Rover and head South to what’s undoubtedly SoCal’s vibiest spot at San Onofre for a guided paddle out with San Clemente local surf pro and SCP brand ambassador Izzi Gomez.
The morning session begins with a meditation around the fire pit lead by Pamela and ends with a warm RinseKit shower and a freshly made farmers market frittata.
Back on property, the hotel offers gear rentals, yoga classes tailored to surfers, and in the summertime, après events, too. To keep joints juicy, guests can book into morning ocean cold plunges as well. There’s also a charming yoga deck that serves as a private dinner space for intimate gatherings and celebrations.
Those looking to give back during their stay can opt in to SCP’s Every Stay Does Good Program by joining volunteer projects with SeaTrees, a non-profit aimed at planting kelp that will ultimately regenerate the waters we enjoy.
All in all, the property really embodies SCP’s mission of integrating soul, community, and planet, no doubt sharing the stoke to revisit again and again.
