We know it can be scary to venture off into the outdoors for the first time ever, whether you’re pitching a tent on dunes by the beach or cozying up on a mattress in the back of your car near the woods.

If you’re ready to embark on your first outdoor adventure, but you’re not sure 1. How to even pitch a tent or 2. What we’re even talking about when we suggest sleeping on a mattress in the back of your car, never fear. A Colorado hotel wants to teach you how to camp in the friendly confines of a deck overlooking the renowned Rocky Mountains summit, Pikes Peak.

It all starts on the fourth-floor Camp Deck at Kinship Landing in downtown Colorado Springs, where you’ll be taught how to pitch a tent, make a bonfire, roast s’mores on that fire, and more. Then the true test begins. You’ll head out to a nearby campsite—yes, in the actual outdoors—to test out your newfound skills in the wilderness.

Don’t worry, you’ll be assigned a local expert and outdoor guide upon your arrival at the hotel. You’ll be provided with a tent, sleeping bags and pads, a stove and cookware, backpack, bear keg, and food. One night will be spent honing your skills; the second night will take place out under the stars.

The hotel’s team says the location will be picked after a consultation, but the Crags Campground is one possibility. This first-come, first-served site opens in late May and is located near the base of Pikes Peak. It’s also close to the start of hikes including Crags Trail and Devil’s Playground Trail.
