After being closed for more than a year, Disneyland is open again!

California’s Disneyland Resort shut its doors at the start of the pandemic and is only now reopening. In a year of change, it has us wondering: How has a classic like Disneyland adapted to the times?

As of April 30 the park is again open under strict guidelines to ensure the safety of its guests and staff. There is one big change to entrance policies you should know about: If you’re thinking of buying tickets upon arrival, think again. Disneyland is requiring all guests to make a park reservation in addition to buying a ticket. They are also restricting entrance to California residents and groups no larger than three households, per the state’s current COVID-19 guidelines. Face coverings are required for all visitors, employees, and characters. (Don’t worry, Mickey’s magic can still be seen through his face-covering!)

You can find out which attractions are open here through Disney’s website. You will find some things missing, like Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Jungle Cruise, and the Grizzly River Run. Along with this, FASTPASS, Disney MaxPasses, Parades and Nighttime Spectaculars, Character Greetings, Magical Makeovers at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, and Single Rider Queues will also be unavailable.

These aren’t the only changes to hit the park. Visitors will notice some new attractions, too. On June 4th, Disney California Adventure Park will open up their brand new Avengers campus. Travel galaxies away through their new attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT, where you’ll join Rocket on a journey to save his teammates. Or head down the web into WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, which promises a run-in with spider bots. The campus will also offer two encounters: Ancient Sanctum and Avenger’s Headquarters. At the Sanctum, you’ll explore ruins and encounter the elusive Doctor Strange. At the Headquarters, you’ll get the ultimate Avengers experience that will leave you feeling Super! The campus also has a Pym Test Kitchen, Worldwide Engineering Brigade, and Collector’s Warehouse.

If you’re not ready to hit the park you can still celebrate its opening at home. Try out these fun Star Wars-inspired drinks, read up on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, or simply sit back on the couch and watch some classic Disney flicks.
