Let’s face it: airport snacks have always been pricey. But these days, it’s downright unaffordable. Aside from saving yourself money, bringing your own snacks on your flight can also be a much healthier alternative. And no one does snacks better than TJ’s.

Generally, it’s best to look for things that are high in protein, fiber, and flavor, and that aren’t loaded with added sugar, keeping you fuller for longer by avoiding glucose spikes. And while there’s actual science behind why super salty crunch snacks taste better in the air, I generally avoid that too so as to avoid dehydration and therefore jet lag. Here are the 10 best snacks to grab at Trader Joe’s before your next flight.

Trader Joe’s

Hazelnut Nougat Barebells

I swear these actually taste like a hybrid of a Snickers and Nutella. They’re my favorite protein bars on the market and are much healthier than grabbing a candy bar at the Hudson News kiosk.

Trader Joe’s

Chomps Beef Sticks

An antibiotic and hormone-free version of a Slim Jim, these are a road trip staple for me, too. They’re high in protein and sugar-free as well.

Trader Joe’s

Giant Peruvian Inca Corn

If you’re a fan of Corn Nuts, these oversize corn kernels will hit the spot. They’re admittedly a bit salty, but they taste so good up in the air.

Trader Joe’s

Roasted and Salted Marcona Almonds

These luxe almonds work just as well as a mid-flight snack as they do on a fancy charcuterie board or, yes, on top of vanilla ice cream. It’s a nice departure from regular roasted almonds, and feels like a treat.

Trader Joe’s

Dried Baby Sweet Pineapple

With all the dried fruits at TJ’s, you’ll want to make sure you’re going for the option without sugar added. These pineapples are so sweet and treaty on their own, plus they’re packed with fiber, which is great for keeping digestion regulated on a trip.

Trader Joe’s

Almond Butter Almonds

These are a bit high in sugar, sure. But they are totally delicious being covered in sweet almond butter, and are reminiscent of a great marzipan croissant.

Trader Joe’s

Inner Peas

These snap pea crisps are a TJ’s staple and have been around for years. I will start a riot if they are removed from shelves. Light and airy, the label says they’re great for dipping but there’s so much flavor on their own that I’ve never even veered in that direction.

Trader Joe’s

Gin Gins

If you’re the type that gets travel tummy, these ginger chews are excellent to keep on hand. Ginger is also great for immunity, too.

Trader Joe’s

Scandinavian Swimmers

They don’t taste exactly like their Swedish counterparts, but they’ll do the trick. If they’re out of these, I’ll opt for some of the Australian black licorice, which is also good for upset tummies.

Trader Joe’s

Unsweetened Dried Mango

It’s difficult not to smash an entire bag of these, but make sure it’s the sugar-free kind. You’ll be feeling like you arrived on a tropical island long before you land.
