These Are the Top 10 U.S. Summer Travel Destinations for 2024

It’s never too early to start planning for summer. Get together a group and pack your bag because Airbnb revealed what travel trends are hot this summer. 

It’s no secret that travel out West is the best—five Western gems snagged a spot among the top 10 U.S. summer destinations. Copa America host cities like Glendale, Arizona, and Las Vegas, Nevada earned a slot so you can see how the soccer championship plays out beyond the TV screen. Other cities on the list like Ouray, Colorado; Quincy, Washington; and Eugene, Oregon, are beckoning visitors to bask in the beauty of the great outdoors with major attractions around town.

Airbnb also found that another travel trend revolves around getting outside. This summer marks a 30% increase in Airbnb searches for outdoor activities—it’s prime time for families to enjoy some space outside in gorgeous weather with breathtaking views. Private outside space and beachside stays are trending for those traveling with family, according to the survey. Nearly 60% of Airbnb users want ample space for everyone, and 71% prioritize amenities like kitchens, workspaces, and backyards.

And get ready for a summer where your Airbnb becomes more than just a place to stay. Vacation isn’t just about relaxation but also play and adventure. Another top trend this summer is play-based, experiential stays. Think: arcades, game courts, slides, and more—going beyond the basic amenities for a thrilling vacation. Airbnb reported that searches within the “Play” category more than doubled for summer travel. There will never be a dull moment with accommodations this entertaining. 

For example, Airbnb highlighted a Luxury Entertainment Oasis in Tracy, California—a dedicated guest favorite and one of the most wishlisted Listings in the “Play” category. With 2,970 square feet on two acres, this ranch is a haven for exploration. From basketball, tennis, badminton, and pickleball courts to a 13-hole putting green and ax-throwing setup, the Airbnb has a game for anyone. And that’s just the beginning: Sit back and relax in a pool with a jacuzzi, swim-up bar, and water slide. Play hard and rest easy.
