Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad – Durango, Colorado
The tracks of the steam-powered Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad run through real backroads—places you can’t access with a Tesla. What’s not available on board: Wi-Fi or cell coverage. After all, train travelers have been doing without those modcons since the steamer’s first run in 1882. Some of the cars date to the Victorian era and glass ceilings in the first-class Knight Sky and Silver Vista offer pretty spectacular after-dark views. Themed trips such as brew and wine trains, as well as seasonal offerings like Christmas tree–cutting itineraries are fun ways to experience the route.
