Sunset is excited to announce the launch of its 2023 Idea House, featuring a first-of-its-kind partnership thanks to the style and inspiration of a well-respected lifestyle expert.

We’re teaming up with entrepreneur and design enthusiast Camille Styles to transform a 1950s-style Malibu beach house into a modern masterpiece with the help of renowned Malibu-based architecture firm Burdge Architects.

For years, Sunset has worked with builders, interior designers, architects, and landscape architects to create a showcase-worthy home that displays the latest innovations in Western home design. Continuously sparking cutting-edge ideas and trends, Sunset’s annual Idea House has established itself as a highly celebrated and respected project among our audience, as well as within the design community as a whole.

Camille not only embodies the life Sunset readers aspire to, but she’s also an inspiring storyteller.

“Camille not only embodies the life Sunset readers aspire to, but she’s also an inspiring storyteller,” Sunset editor-in-chief Hugh Garvey says. “We’re thrilled to be able to share the evolution of her home, and her new life in the West, with our audience.”

Styles and her husband, Adam, purchased the Malibu property with intentions of unlocking the awe of the West Coast. They previously renovated a home in Austin, Texas, and shared their journey from start to finish. Styles is editor-in-chief of the lifestyle website camillestyles.com and is known for inspiring her readers to “live life like you mean it” with guides to food, gatherings, wellness, beauty, and more.

“When we found this property at Zuma Beach almost two years ago, we knew it was special, but needed a lot of love,” Styles says. “And now, as our family embarks on a West Coast adventure to completely transform the house into our dream retreat, I couldn’t be more excited to share the journey of our renovation with Sunset’s readers.”

Styles will document this year’s renovation journey as a guest editor on Sunset.com as well as on her own platforms. In Malibu, she aims to achieve a sleek, minimalist design with clean lines, natural materials, and organic textures. The 2,500-square-foot main house boasts three bedrooms and four bathrooms, in addition to a 600-square-foot guest house with an expansive 1,500 square feet of patio space that will be maximized for indoor-outdoor living.
