IKEA’s Latest Collaboration Couldn’t Get More Swedish Than This
The 20-piece collection helps you enjoy and make music.
Two of the most famous institutions to come out of Sweden have teamed up. IKEA and DJ supergroup Swedish House Mafia collaborated on the limited-edition OBEGRÄNSAD collection back in early September and now all 20 pieces are available to purchase in stores and online.
OBEGRÄNSAD, which means “unlimited” in Swedish, was designed for music fans everywhere. According to a press release, the collection “targets everyone who values music experience at home and beyond: music fans, music producers, DJs, and all creators with limited means but unlimited creativity.” Swedish House Mafia, which consists of DJs Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso, used their memories of their early careers and how they started making music as inspiration. The thinking behind it all is that technology has really democratized music and music production, so the collection is geared towards supporting creators, no matter their budget. It lets aspiring music producers create a studio in their own home with it.
“We wanted to simplify the process for people to create music. Hopefully, our collection inspires and enables more people to be more creative within their home, and it does not have to be restricted to only music making. It can be so much more,” Swedish House Mafia said in a press release.
The minimalist, sleek offerings include a record player, a desk, an armchair, a rug, lighting, and stands for laptops, tablets, and speakers. And of course, in true IKEA fashion, there’s a “hack”—the OBEGRÄNSAD shelving unit is a remake of the classic KALLAX shelf with extra space for amplifiers.
