Block Shop has been catching eyes with their beautiful textile designs on their rugs, scarves, pillows—and now their brand-new bedding collection.

Block Shop’s first collection of linen bedding is batch-dyed and hand block printed with their unique designs. The line includes standard shams, king and queen duvet covers, lumbar pillows, and even a linen quilt with natural cotton batting, and both the duvet covers and the quilt are totally reversible.

“In terms of artistic inspiration, this collection features the latest iteration of our pattern inspired by Kenneth Noland’s Color Field target paintings of the early 1960s,” says Block Shop co-founder Hopie Stockman. “Our intention when we set out designing this collection was to bring joy into people’s homes via thoughtfully, handmade art objects with function. The colors range from vibrant magenta to soft flax, and while the patterns are subtle, they still sing—even in a neutral palette.”

While the neutral Sunwave quilt is designed as a staple piece that Stockman envisions as a core product that will remain in their collection for years to come, the duvet colors are a limited run. Between the blue Cornflower, pink Azalea, green Sage, and black and white Natural Flax, Stockman has a few favorites. “We especially love the pizzazz of the hot pink, which shouts fun person! And we love how the soft sage-y green brings the outdoors inside,” she says.

While the launch has been in the works for a while, it wasn’t easy to pull off during the pandemic.

“Launching a new product remotely was as difficult a decision to make as it was a challenge to execute logistically,” says Stockman. “I’m extremely proud of our team for making it work as safely and seamlessly as possible. We had to over-communicate, digitally, all the tiny details that go into a launch.”

“Like many small businesses trying to stay afloat in Covid-19, these incremental sales are make or break for our business. Our customers’ support and flexibility with wait time meant so much to us. We’ve had to reimagine what the next year for our business will look like, and majorly readjust our growth goals, while prioritizing the employment and wellbeing of our team in here L.A.,” she says.

Block Shop is also supporting the wellbeing of others, by donating 10% of scarf and bandana revenues to United Way of Greater Los Angeles and L.A. Regional Foodbank that serve some of L.A.’s most vulnerable populations during the pandemic. Block Shop has also partnered with a small woman-owned sew shop, SUAY, to produce washable masks, 100% of which will go to the soon-to-launch food bank for L.A.’s garment workers.
