You spend about one-third of your life in your bedroom, so it’s certainly a space to prioritize. Beyond the comforts of cozy bedding and the perfect spot for your TV, designers are focusing on what’s referred to as “bedscaping.” The concept focuses on elevating your sleep sanctuary to reflect your style and personality, whether you’re looking for a cool and calm approach or something bold and bright.

We enlisted Drew Michael Scott of Lone Fox to help us learn more about the simple ways you can become your own personal bedscape architect. Last year, he completely redesigned his bedroom with vintage finds, ceiling paint, and other thoughtful and creative touches.

“This is by far my favorite room I’ve had and it just feels so ME,” he captioned an Instagram post in May 2024. Below, Scott shares his tips to make your bedroom more “you.”

1. Layer Your Bedding

“I gravitate toward organic fabrics that create a relaxed, lived-in feel,” Scott says. “Linen, quilts, and coverlets are my go-to for layering—it adds depth and texture, while also making the bed look effortlessly inviting. This kind of layered look really sets the tone for the whole room and creates a calming, curated vibe.”

2. Add Carefully Selected Pieces to Your Nightstand

Scott’s bedside lineup typically includes a small stack of books, a candle, or a vase to “reflect the room’s mood without clutter.” Another way to manage the mess? Make sure your nightstand has a drawer to tuck away any less-than-aesthetically pleasing items.

3. Warm Up the Room with Lighting

“Soft, warm lighting makes all the difference,” Scott says. “I love using glowy sconces on either side of the bed and incorporating ambient lighting throughout the room. It creates an intimate, cozy atmosphere that feels both soothing and visually beautiful.”
