We’re loving Anthropologie’s new line of floral home decor and the talented young artist behind it

If you told Bridgette Thornton five years ago that her floral paintings would bedeck an entire collection of home furnishings at one of her favorite retailers, she’d have laughed at the idea. But the 26 year-old has indeed made it happen, after a whirlwind of undergrad majors (shifting from graphic design to painting) at Oakland’s California College of the Arts, two years in Los Angeles working in fashion advertising, and juggling countless pop-up shops, art shows, and plenty of painting on the side.

The Anthropologie collection features the colorful blooms that Thornton paints in acrylic and gouache (read: more opaque than watercolor, but equally as dreamy), and is inspired by canyon hikes in her native Moraga, CA, road trips down the Cali coast, and the vibrant creative community in Venice that helped her make the intimidating leap from advertising to art.

Through the company’s Artist Collaboration series, the Anthro team has transferred Thornton’s lively blooms onto everyday items, from quilts to serving platters, to easily transform your cabinet shelves and living room into a blooming spring oasis.

Most items are available online, and the full 18-piece Paint + Petals collection is in stores now. For more flower-power inspo, you can also follow East Bay-based Thornton at @paintandpetals.
