The 3 Things You Can’t Miss While Spring Cleaning
Experts share oft-overlooked areas that need some extra love.

There’s no shortage of spring cleaning tips out there, but what about the spaces you might not realize you’ve missed? We turned to three experts to share the spots in your home that could use a deeper clean this month. From your kitchen to the bedroom, these are the places that require more TLC than you think (plus, how to clean them):

Sure, it’s not a seasonal item, but you may be neglecting the kitchen essential you use the most—and there’s no better time to tackle it than during your spring cleaning session.
“One spot I often see clients overlook during their spring cleaning is the refrigerator,” says professional organizing expert Rachel Rosenthal. “It’s easy to get caught up in organizing and cleaning the more visible areas of your home, but the refrigerator is one place that can truly elevate how your kitchen functions. Keeping it clean and organized not only enhances the overall look of your space but also plays a significant role in preserving your food.”

2. Your Windows

Specifically, your door and window tracks, says Jon Walz, director of customer experience at Andersen Windows and Doors. “Vacuum out dirt or debris, then wash with dish soap and water,” he advises. “And while you’re there, it’s also important to lubricate the tracks and hinges in your windows and doors by adding a little dry silicone for smoother operation.”
Another pro tip from Walz: Clean your windows on cloudy days, or during the morning or evening to avoid glass cleaner residue, which crops up on sunny days. “You’ll end up with streaks and it’s the opposite of what you’re trying to do!” he says.
3. Your Mattress

Your beloved sleeping spot could harbor dust, dead skin, and allergens over the years, says David Cartlidge, vice president of product innovation at Mattress Firm. “While most people focus on washing their bedding during spring cleaning, they often forget the mattress itself,” he says. “A clean mattress is key to good sleep hygiene, creating a healthier sleep environment that prompts better rest.”
Cartilage suggests giving your mattress a quick vacuum, spot-cleaning stains, deodorizing with baking soda, and investing in a mattress protector. If your mattress is past its prime (usually around eight years old), it might also be time to nab a new one.
