During the weeks between Halloween and Thanksgiving (you know, two of the biggest social food holidays of the year), some people might try to ease up on the food and drink. We at Sunset are not those people. Especially not when a renowned weeklong celebration of wine and food is happening here in the West, with plenty of bites and sips to satisfy all of our cravings. The San Diego Bay Wine + Food Festival starts on November 9, bringing with it a host of tasting events, star chefs both local and national, hundreds of wines, craft beers and spirits, and a Grand Tasting Finale—all set against an idyllic backdrop of sailboats and sandy beaches.
Here are some event highlights to look out for:
Back by popular demand for the eighth consecutive year, this taco throwdown is a favorite among festival regulars and newbies alike. In it, chefs go head-to-head to determine who’s serving up San Diego’s tastiest taco. Expect amazing food, tequila stations and beer, live music, and some fierce competition. The heat is on November 17!
Flights of Fancy
Over 700 wine and beer selections will be poured over the course of the week, with plenty of fun events where you can taste, taste, taste; including a beer tour, a mezcal-paired dinner, a Basque wine and cheese event, and nighttime afterparties. Best of all, the Grand Decant brings the country’s top sommeliers and winemakers for a palate-expanding evening of talks and pours. Trust us, you won’t want to miss a thing.
The Grand Tasting
The most widely attended event at the festival, this November 16 extravaganza isn’t to be missed! Explore the Plant Based Zone featuring the culinary offerings of a celebrated vegan chef and natural wines; prime wine and cocktail tastings at the rustic-chic Camp Cohn; the crowning of the Chef of the Fest; and lots more surprises.
