Sunset

Community: Healdsburg, CA (ci.healdsburg.ca.us)

Builder: Blu Homes (bluhomes.com)
Founded in 2007, Blu makes beautiful green homes suitable for a wide range of residential, commercial and institutional buyers. Blu’s breakthrough computer modeling, unique use of steel and wood and revolutionary folding technology makes beautifully designed homes more economical to ship and quicker to set up than other modern, green homes. Blu homes are healthy to live in and better for the environment because they are built with the highest green standards in mind and they are more energy efficient, quieter, better ventilated, create less waste, less destructive to the natural habitat and the open designs allow for spaces that feel larger than they are, resulting in a smaller carbon footprint.

Project Architect: Joseph Remick, Blu Homes (bluhomes.com)
Joseph Remick has been a California registered architect since 2001 and has over five years of pre-fab experience. Joseph joined Blu in 2011 where he manages a talented team of designers in Blu’s West Coast Design office. He employs his experience with passive and active solar design, building science, energy efficient building systems and life cycle cost analysis to create beautiful and thoughtful projects that meet the high levels of quality and sustainability that Blu stands behind.

Interior Designer: Sharon Portnoy, Sharon Portnoy Design (sharonportnoy.com)

Landscape Designer: Steve Hinderberger, Hindesign (hindesignonline.com)
Steve Hinderberger is known for offering personal attention to every project. Steve works closely in a collaborative process with his clients to provide unique and creative design solutions to residential remodels, additions, new construction, and landscape design.

Plant Design: Jessy Berg, Co-Founder and President of Habitat Design (habitatdesign.com)
A marketing professional armed with an MBA and years of successful tech experience, Berg ventured towards new opportunities after the dot-com bust in 2000, seeking an outlet for her creativity and passion for the outdoors.  A new career was born after Jessy enrolled in a landscape architecture program and worked in a nursery to glean everything she could about plants.  In 2001, Jessy launched Berg Designs, focusing on high-end residential design in San Francisco and the Peninsula.  Her approach has always been very simple: create the garden of your client’s dreams by working collaboratively. In 2011, Jessy partnered with Bonnie Gemmell to launch Habitat Design.  The online gardening resource is grounded firmly in the belief that everyone deserves a beautiful garden.

Landscape Stylist: Bonnie Gemmell, Co-Founder of Habitat Design (habitatdesign.com)
Ohio native Bonnie Gemmell is a farm girl with an entrepreneurial spirit and a love of shopping. She grew up in Findlay, Ohio, where she worked daily in a field to grow and harvest vegetables and produce to sell from a stand in her front yard.  Bonnie moved to the heart of Silicon Valley at the very beginning of the tech boom, where she eventually launched and sold BonSu, the first Macintosh-only distributor of software and peripherals. In 2011, Bonnie was approached by friend Jessy Berg to create something that could tap into her love of gardening and landscape artistry along with her tech and marketing expertise.  Now, she enjoys helping other people grow wonderful things and create beautiful outdoor spaces.
