I’ve seen a lot of crazy things on Mexican beaches, but nothing quite like this… Earlier this week thousands of baby lobsters washed up on a 5-mile stretch of shore near Tijuana. The event reportedly began on Monday, and by Tuesday morning police and fire department officials, with help from local residents, were on the beach with buckets, working to return any living lobsters to the sea. Can’t say for sure how that went, but judging by this video, not great. An organization called the Border Project for Environmental Education identified the stranded crustaceans as the California spiny lobster (Panulirus interruptus), a popular ingredient in Baja cuisine. No one knows for certain why the lobsters washed ashore, but apparently this is just the latest in a spate of Baja beachings. Earlier this month, a grey whale corpse landed on the same beach, and last week, according to CNN México, thousands of blue jellyfish washed up in the area.
