Open since April, The Lark’s 38 rooms bring back some of our favorite (design) hits of the 1970s: platform beds, those molded plastic chairs we had in elementary school, an ever so casually draped sheepskin. The Distillery Inn, Carbondale, CO
There’s no need for a designated driver at this tasting room: Marble Distilling Co. (150 Main St.) has five bedrooms, each with gas fireplace and most overlooking Mount Sopris, handily located upstairs from its vats of vodka and “gingercello” and coffee liqueur. From $249.
Hotel Jackson, Jackson, WY
Channeling Deadwood by way of Downton Abbey, the new-last-month 58-room Hotel Jackson (120 N. Glenwood) combines suede headboards with reclaimed barn siding. And, of course, even though it’s in the center of town, it’s also on the doorstep of the Grand Tetons. From $399.
Vasquez Creek Inn, Winter Park, CO
Last fall, the people behind Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa, outside of town, opened this Alpine-y gasthaus for the ski crowd. But its 15 rooms put you within easy range of great mountain biking too, and Rocky Mountain National Park is an hour’s drive north. From $150.
Canyon Lodge & Cabins, Yellowstone National Park, WY
In August, a trio of three-story structures containing 409 rooms in all will begin welcoming guests near the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. (Two more buildings should be ready by next summer.) Their innovative construction—dozens of prefab modules were built in Idaho, and then trucked to the park and bolted together—made building these lodges a relative breeze. From $122.
