Frame This: Must-Have National Park Art

As National Park Week wraps up, get a piece of America’s history and support the iconic landscapes with a framable piece of history

Marie Salcido

Colorado-based photographer and graphic designer Rob Decker has been shooting the national parks since the ripe age of eight years old, on black and white film through the lens of his first Kodak. At nineteen, he apprenticed under the famed Ansel Adams in Yosemite, and has been capturing the magic of America’s landscapes ever since.

For the past fifty years, he has traveled across the country, shooting and exploring nearly 60 national parks that have inspired Americans for generations. Using his own self-developed process that transforms high dynamic range (HDR) photographs to WPA-era images, he’s created a series of posters inspired by the incredible landscapes, from the rugged canyons of the Gunnison to the colorful subgroups of Biscayne.

With billions of dollars in maintenance backlogs, and questionable federal funding, conservation of the parks system is largely dependent on organizations, trusts, and other associations across the country that support these national resources. Decker donates a portion of profits from his works, which are available in posters, postcards, and canvas prints, to the National Park Foundation, Yosemite Conservancy, Yellowstone Forever, the Western National Parks Association, and others that support our park system. Purchasing one of his works would contribute to those efforts and place an iconic park landscape on your wall. Now that’s a win-win.
