Kevin and Terresa Davis, the couple who brought Seattle the restaurants Steelhead Diner and Blueacre, opened Orfeo, a darkish, modern bistro that betrays the couple’s Italian accent. Orfeo fills the mission-style building long left vacant by Brasa—which is how it inherited one of downtown’s few wood-burning ovens—but makes its own mark with dishes like applewood-scented “hearth bread,” served alongside housemade ricotta spiked with crushed red chiles, and smoky roasted mussels with garlic, pepper, and preserved lemon. The Orpheus legend may bring to mind the fires of hell, but the plate-size charcoal-roasted pork chop is rather heavenly.
