Lady Yum, in the center of Kirkland, has proven the burbs can do macarons better than Seattle. Billed as a shop that sells “macarons and mischief,” the bakery offers classic flavors of the traditional meringue-based sandwich cookie (think dark chocolate, lemon, and strawberry) but also does a bang-up job with less expected variations, like Key lime–coconut and s’mores. The best part? After two years in the custom-cake business, owner Megan Gordon (favorite flavor: toasted coconut) thought to pair her macarons with a great bubbly menu. Tuesdays bring a bottomless sparkling-wine bar, where you can fancy up your flute with locally made Sweet Caroline’s Shrubs ($15). And if there’s one thing we like more than an after-dinner macaron, it’s a macaron with a Champagne cocktail.
