What is it with Oakland, star chefs, and Asian street food? First, James Syhabout gave us Hawker Fare in Uptown, and now Preeti Mistry from Top Chef: Las Vegas has brought her peripatetic Juhu Beach Club down to earth in the hopping Temescal district. Not that we’re complaining, with the likes of a fiery coriander-shrimp curry or the vada pav (a potato-puff slider with pickled red onions and ghost pepper chutney) on her menu. The mango lassi is sweet and salty enough to pucker your mouth. And those Desi Jacks, a spicy twist on the old Cracker Jack recipe? If only they sold these at the ballpark.
