Beach chic meets Hollywood glamour at Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows. The 32 private suites, originally built in 1938, became a favorite hideaway for stars like Marilyn Monroe and Jean Harlow. These days, it’s the kind of place starlets would seek out once again after a complete overhaul by local interior designer Michael Berman. “The rooms have a barefoot luxury,” Berman says. “Outside of literally putting a sandbox in them, we wanted to give guests the experience of being in a beachside bungalow.” There is a thread of continuity between each one, from the seagull light fixtures to the ceramic tile floors that resemble driftwood. At the same time, Berman curated each individually, adding vintage lamps and artwork featuring images of Santa Monica in the 1950s.
