Recipe by Ayesha Curry, star of Ayesha’s Homemade on the Food Network and author of The Seasoned Life (Little, Brown and Co., 2016). Ayesha’s whole family is smitten with the sweet, crisp bacon at BrickTop’s restaurant in North Carolina. For her riff on it, she cuts the bacon snack-size and piles it up in small bowls like cocktail nuts.

 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
 2 teaspoons pepper

Preheat oven to 400°. Line two rimmed baking sheets with foil and set a wire rack in each. Arrange bacon on racks in a single layer (some overlapping is okay).

Step 2
2

Mix brown sugar, pepper, and fennel and sprinkle over bacon. Bake until bacon is crisp, 25 to 30 minutes, rotating pans halfway through.

Step 3
