Honoring a Western roadside attraction that never fails to trigger amazed gasps and knowing smiles by its sheer kookiness or implausibility.

  • Toilet Paper Hero of Hoover Dam

The Toilet Paper Hero of Hoover Dam, a bronze sculpture in Boulder City, Nevada, collected more votes than our other five roadside attractions put together. Sculptor Steven Liguori based his piece on a photo of a 1930s worker who cleaned outhouses during the dam’s construction. Liguori had his daughter pose in overalls so he could perfectly capture the look of the work pants. The sculpture pays tribute to the people who do the dirty but necessary work in every big undertaking.
