Renting a racer

Get a feel for a race-caliber ride by demo-ing a $3,000–$9,000 hand-built, carbon-frame bike for $65 a day at Boulder Cycle Sport, voted best new bike shop in America in 2005 by Bicycle Retailer and Industry News. Or stick with a basic road bike or mountain bike for $25 a day. The staff will map out a ride that’s right for you (check out the website for the staff’s favorite routes). 4580 Broadway St.; bouldercyclesport.com

Go for a ride

NoBo is the jumping-off point for rides into the foothills like the gradual climb to the tiny mountain hamlet of Jamestown (21 miles round-trip); north on rolling scenic U.S. 36 to Lyons (26 miles round-trip); or east on the flats to the farm town of Hygiene (27 miles round-trip). Check out GoBikeBoulder.net to map out a biking route anywhere in town.

Post-ride refuel

Stop by Rush for a post-ride Açai Au Lait Bowl (blended fruit in a bowl, with organic hemp granola and honey on top) made with açai, a chocolaty super-food berry from the rain forest. Or try a Yoga Bowl with green tea and mangoes, or a Peach Cobbler Bowl with peaches and cinnamon. $; 4593 Broadway St.; rushbowl.com

Say ciao!

Cyclists congregate at Amante Coffee to down espressos before a ride or watch live feeds of the Tour de France or the Giro d’Italia bike races. Coffee beans imported from Italy make for the richest lattes in town, and the gelato and limoncello martinis are classic Italian. $; 4580 Broadway St.; 303/448-9999.
