The Irishman: Prosciutto and Asparagus Pasta

Director Martin Scorsese’s film follows World War II vet Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran (played by Robert De Niro) as he reflects on his life as a hustler and mob hitman, working alongside notorious figures like Jimmy Hoffa, the subject of one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history.

Take a cue from Villa de Roma, an Italian restaurant and mob hangout shown in the film, and serve up Italian American dishes like this hearty, classic Prosciutto and Asparagus Pasta.

Parasite: Korean-Style Braised Short Ribs and Turnips

Director Bong Joon-ho’s suspenseful film is full of layers and dual meanings (you’ll have to watch more than once to catch every detail). Greed, class discrimination, and a mysterious interloper threaten the newly-formed symbolic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the low-income Kim clan.

While we don’t have a recipe for ram-don (the film’s made-up dish featuring cheap ramen noodles topped with sirloin steak), we do have these Korean-Style Braised Short Ribs and Turnips. Turnips are cooked until they’re sweet and mellow, while beef swims in a salty-sweet homestyle stew. While you’re at it, make this super easy kimchi.

Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood: Citrus, Avocado, and Pumpkin Seed Salsa

It’s Los Angeles in 1969 and aging TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) struggle to make their way and keep their relevance in an industry and city they hardly recognize anymore.

Pay homage to El Coyote Mexican Cafe, a real-life Los Angeles restaurant icon pictured in the film, with this Citrus, Avocado, and Pumpkin Seed Salsa. It’s a Mexican-inspired dish that features every Angeleno’s favorite ingredient: avocado.

Marriage Story: Pluots with Yogurt and Cookie Crumble

Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson play a young creative couple navigating the tricky waters of a bicoastal (Los Angeles and New York City) separation and impending divorce—all while debating what is best for their son.

Just like the parents’ marriage, this dessert is made to crumble. This time, in a good way.

FORD v FERRARI: The Classic Burger

In this based-on-a-true-story movie, visionary auto designer Carroll Shelby and race driver Ken Miles team up to build a high-performance race car for the Ford Motor Company in hopes of defeating Ferrari at the 1966 Le Mans.

Tip your hat to 1960s diners—where that iconic scene between actors Matt Damon and Christian Bale takes place—with a classic burger. Fries and a milkshake are optional, but highly encouraged.

Little Women: Pear Skillet Cake

This Greta Gerwig film features a star-studded cast like Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Laura Dern, Timothee Chalamet and Florence Pugh. The movie adaptation of the literary icon takes place in the late 1860s, when burgeoning author Jo March looks back on the March sisters’ Massachusetts childhoods and the events and relationships that helped shape them as adults.

This delightfully moist Pear Skillet Cake is inspired by the extravagantly sweet breakfast the March girls wake up to on Christmas morning.

Jojo Rabbit: Blueberry Dutch Baby with Lemon Curd

During World War II, a lonely German boy’s world is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother is hiding a young Jewish girl in their attic. The film follows Jojo as he confronts his blind nationalism, only with the help of his imaginary friend Adolf Hitler, played by the film’s director Taika Waititi.

You’ll look at this massive German pancake, also known as a Dutch Baby, with Jojo-esque childlike wonder thanks to colorful blueberries and tangy-sweet lemon curd.

Joker: Green Gin Cocktail

In Gotham’s shattered society, an aspiring stand-up comic played by Joaquin Phoenix believes the joke is always on him. Feeling trapped in a continuation of apathy, cruelty and betrayal, the comedian makes one bad decision after another, bringing about a chain reaction of escalating events.

Like Phoenix’s bright Joker outfit and electric green hair, this cocktail feels right in theme with the psychological thriller.

1917: Sausage and Bean Dutch Oven Stew

During World War I, two British soldiers are sent on a dangerous mission to stop an attack by the British 7th Division that will result in a massacre by the Germans. Their assignment takes on extra conflict, questions, and turbulence as one of the young soldiers’ brothers is fighting in that Division.

Since common 1917 war-time fare consisted of long-lasting food like canned beans, try this Sausage and Bean Dutch Oven Stew for your Oscars viewing party. Baguette for dipping is never a bad choice, either.
