Our Designer Network is a group of trailblazers and icons that Sunset and sister publications Coastal Living and Southern Living work with to curate the best home designs for the magazines.

This week, we feature interior designer Susan Jamieson of Bridget Beari Designs.

Sunset: How would you describe your style?

SJ: Bridget Beari style is creatively classic. A blend of architectural elements, location and the client’s lifestyle.

Sunset: What’s a design trend you’re loving right now?

SJ: We are loving Scandinavian style. The furniture pieces and colors are simple, neutral and hand-crafted.

Sunset: What’s your No. 1 piece of design advice for homeowners?

SJ: My number one piece of advice for clients: mix it up. Use modern with antique pieces, pattern with solids, modern art with antiques. Nothing is interesting about a predictable room.

Sunset: What’s your go-to statement-making front door paint color?

SJ: I love a high gloss pop-of-color front door. I love strong blue with a grey or white house.

Sunset: Favorite designers/tastemakers/etc. to follow on Instagram?

SJ: Abigail Ahern from London

Sunset: When it comes to (beach house) kitchens, what’s your preference: Island or peninsula?

SJ: Always an island! Easy to serve from for big gatherings and great for casual eating when coming off the beach.
