How the California drought is changing the way we cook

As the drought continues, New York Times food writer Kim Severson noted in yesterday’s article that our dwindling water supply is causing a huge ripple effect in the kitchen. There’s nothing worse than being called out, by state, but there’s hope: individuals are taking everyday actions to combat the issue.

Our very own senior food editor Margo True is quoted, saying, “There is no such thing as putting your vegetables in a colander and letting the water drain through it anymore.”

Here at Sunset, we’re doing everything in the Test Kitchen and our homes to save water. We know it takes effort, but it’s well worth the time. Start off with the little things. These seven ways to conserve water while cooking will help ease you in.
