Although it may not exactly be the archetypal Sunset house—a sun-filled Cliff May rancher in the San Diego hills, or maybe an Eichler in Marin’s Lucas Valley—this staid-looking Colonial-meets-Tudor Revival in Seattle possesses hidden charms, even for we modernists.
Sure, it’s more traditional than most of the houses we feature in the mag. But beyond those mossy shingles lies a particularly endearing blend of Western wackiness (courtesy of owners Jeff Ofelt and Wade Weigel—the latter helped found the Ace Hotel chain).
I mean, get a load of that coffered ceiling, the Saarinen tulip chairs, the taxidermied raven, and what is that under the bell jar? (Oh, and the bulldog, of course. I’m pretty sure he’s alive.)
I say we call it hipster baronial, and I say it’s great.
