Let’s ring in 2016 with the aurora borealis, shall we?

According to the entire Internet right now, there’s a massive solar eruption that’s scheduled to hit Earth the morning of December 30. And when this coronal mass ejection (that’s what it’s called) bangs into our planet, it results in a spectacular holiday light show. Boom. An aurora.

Northern California may get a peek of the Northern Lights on December 30, but there will be higher visibility in Oregon and surrounding areas.

So keep an eye on the sky tonight! And for updates, follow @Aurora_Alerts on Twitter.
