After 117 years (which is how old Sunset is), you’d think we’d have done it all. But you’d be wrong! We’re launching (literally) something new this summer: our first-ever Sunset Wine Cruise—in the Mediterranean! Starting in Barcelona on August 5, we’ll be visiting ports of call in Spain, France, and Italy, capping the trip in Monte Carlo August 12.
I’m excited to be onboard, hosting wine dinners and wine tastings, exploring the wines of those Old World regions, as well as California, Washington, and Oregon. In one grand tasting celebrating our Sunset International Wine Competition, we’ll be pouring more than 50 top medal winners. My colleage, food editor Margo True, will be onboard too, doing cooking demonstrations of favorite local dishes. And we’ll be doing food and wine pairing together.
That’s just onboard. Every day in port, there will be excursions designed to immerse us in the wine, food, history, and culture of the Mediterranean, starting in Barcelona with an almost overwhelming slate of choices, from a tapas crawl, a cava sparkling wine tour, and an evening of flamenco to bicycling through vineyards. During the course of the week, picture a market tour followed by a cooking class and lunch at Florence’s legendary Lorenzo de’ Medici Culinary Institute.
Join Margo and me! You can get started here. You even have a chance to win a free cruise! Just tell us why you want to go.
Hope to see you onboard!
