Bedford 2009 Carignane (Santa Barbara County; $30) Tangy raspberry flavors, darker cassis, white pepper, and red earth come together in this Santa Ynez Valley version of an old but rather obscure California wine.
Casa Dumetz 2012 Gewürztraminer (Santa Ynez Valley; $30) A gamut of citrus flavors, from grapefruit to tangerine, joins floral aromatics and spice in this mouth-filling Gewürz.
Casa Dumetz 2012 Larner Vineyard Grenache (Santa Ynez Valley; $34) Dried cherry, cinnamon, pepper, and mocha are layered under juicy red fruit in this light-bodied Grenache.
Martian Ranch 2011 “Red Shift” Syrah (Santa Barbara County; $24) Interesting, savory notes of cured meat, smoke, and leafy tobacco lead into a rush of sweet, ripe blueberry and blackberry flavors balanced with lively acidity.
