Winter really warms up at Taos Ski Valley during the 18th annual Taos Winter Wine Festival, with 50 wineries represented by either owner or winemaker. There will be seminars, grand tastings, winemaker dinners, and ― new this year ― cooking demonstrations by eminent local chefs at the Taos School of Cooking. This year’s P. F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon & 1/2 Marathon starts downtown, then winds its way through Scottsdale and into downtown Tempe. Along the way, more than 50 live bands will serenade runners. Not an elite athlete? Walk the marathon or half-marathon course, or just head to the grand-finale concert at Tempe Beach Park (80 W. The holidays may be over, but it’s toy land for young-at-heart collectors at the Arizona Toy & Advertising Round-up, where you’ll find everything from vintage toy trucks and cars to antique dolls to still-trendy Star Wars items. The Fairgrounds Antique Market next door will feature Early American furniture, Depression-era glass, estate jewelry, and free tastings of fudge and Arizona-grown wines. CROWNPOINT, NEW MEXICO

Once a month, Navajo artists bring their finely woven traditional rugs to town to sell directly to dealers, collectors, and lovers of their craft at the venerable Crownpoint Rug Auction. There’s plenty of food and fun, and bargains on jewelry, pottery, and beadwork await. Stay overnight in nearby Farmington, Grants, or Gallup.
