New cirque: The MGM Grand in Las Vegas is the venue for KÀ

The Canadian performing company Cirque du Soleil keeps raising the circus bar. , its new production at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, tells the story of separated twins and their fantastic journey to reunite despite obstacles such as persistent pyrotechnics, aggressive insects, and nasty martial-arts experts.

Portland-based artist Michael Curry designed the show’s giant puppets (including an 80-foot-long snake), stringless creations that can really be described as elaborate costumes. But don’t wear these at home: “It’s the level of unusual talent these performers have that makes them work, especially the contortionists,” says Curry. 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Fri-Tue; from $99; MGM Grand, 3799 Las Vegas Blvd. S., Las Vegas; www.ka.com or 800/929-1111.
