Now on the scene is metal sculptor Kevin Spitzer and architect Kate Spitzer's new Central Cinema, where food- and flick-loving locals have a high-style spot to congregate in the formerly fringe Central District.

Central Cinema, which opened in May, serves up classic, local-interest, gay and lesbian, kids', and foreign flicks, from Mostly Martha to The Goonies, along with a sophisticated menu ― the stone oven-fired potato-rosemary pizza is a must, as is the curry popcorn. The couple's design background manifests itself in details such as custom-made booths with built-in food trays, and hand-silk-screened wallpaper from a local artist.
