Rule #1 Borrow or rent gear the first few times you go to get a feel for what you’ll really use. To that end, here’s a list that’ll work for a car-camping trip.
_ Tent
_ Ground cloth
_ Sleeping pad
_ Sleeping bag
_ Pillow
_ Flashlights with fresh batteries
_ Lantern
_ Camp stove
_ Lighter fluid plus matches or lighter
_ Fire starter (paper and/or wood)
_ Cooking supplies (pot, spatula, pocket knife or multipurpose tool)
_ Plates, cups, forks, knives
_ Small cutting board
_ Rain gear
_ First-aid kit
_ Bug spray
_ Sunblock
